HISTORY OF BURIAL GROUND

Abiah Reed, whose house was located at 10-12 Spring Street, buried

his two children here in 1834. In 1849 a cemetery association was formed

and the lot named the "Evergreen Cemetery". This name was later changed

to Spring Street Cemetery. The body of David Jenkins, who died in

1792, was brought here to join other members of the Jenkins family.

The bodies of the family of Lt. David Hearsey were also moved here

from Island Grove.
