House Picture Needed, 51 Albion St.
This house is typical of the modest residences constructed on Albion Street during the 1870's and 1880's. Moreover, it one of the few houses on this street which has not been significantly altered. Its distinctive architectures features are limited to the verge board in the gable ends, and the canopy over the main entrance which is supported by quarter-round brackets cut in a spoke pattern. Also noteworthy is the diamond-shaped stair window on the south side. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Albion Street was laid out in 1873 by a local developer, Zenas M. Lane. Most of the houses north of this one were built by Lane in the 1870's. This house, which was erected between 1881-1884, came after the original six. The first owner was probable Frederick W. Prouty, a mason who lived here in 1884. The house contained one rental unit, for in 1910, Francis J. McKenna, a shoe worker, boarded here. The house remained in the Prouty family until 1955.
