House Picture Needed, 153 Central Street
This small worker's cottage is ornamented with decorative consoles supporting a canopy over the entrance. the door itself has round arch windows, and both are typical of the Italianate style in Rockland. The molded cornice, especially in the gable above the entrance, is also noteworthy for its ornamental effect, which suggest the Gothic Revival. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE The 1857 map records Luther Glover as the owner of a building on this site. It may have been this house, or that structure may have been replaced by the present building when William Flynn obtained the property in 1858. Flynn was a laborer who lived here as late as 1884. Jeremiah Flynn, who rented a room in the house from the 1860's until the early 1900's was a shoemaker. The building is a good example of a mid-nineteenth century worker's cottage which replaced the Cape Cod type homes of previous years.
