House Picture Needed, 22 Centre Avenue
The moldings on this Greek Revival cottage are so sparse that they make only the most minimal statement about the building architectural derivations. the characteristic Greek Revival cornice returns in the gable ends and the wide frieze board beneath the cornice on the south elevation give the house its stylistic appellation. Note the original six over windows in the west wing and the building's traditional granite foundation. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE George A. Totam was a shoe cutter who lived here from the 1840's to the early 1900's. This long residence was interrupted for an undetermined period around the 1870's when B. B. Burgess sold his home at 42 Centre Avenue next door and bought this house . At that time Totman lived in the house across the street at 13 Centre Ave., which he may have built. By 1884, Totman returned to this location. His family continued to own the property until 1930.
