Commerce, Education, Social/humanitarian HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Prior to Alonzo Lane's ownership, the site was used for a school house, which was built around 1829 with a second school being added in 1831. Both buildings were sold by 1872 and moved to other sections of Rockland. Alonzo Lane first built on this site between 1850-55. In 1877 he sold his first house which was moved to another site. That same year he built the existing structure. Alonzo Lane was the son of Jenkins Lane and a leather dealer with Headquarters in Boston. Mr. John J. Spence purchased the house after Mr. Lane died in 1907. The house was considerably rebuilt when it was converted into a Nursing home in the 1960's. Other Architectural Features:
