Rockland Historic Commission Meeting Minutes 21 November 2002

Those members in attendance were: John Burrows. Peter Dow. Gerry Martin, Lori Fair. and George Dearth (Associate).

I. The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM.

2. Minutes: The Minutes of the 7 November 2002 were approved.

3. Old Business:
A. Subcommittee on 125th Capsule -Recap of 125th Capsule- stone set on 11/9 by Jerry and George. George also took pictures, and a suggestion was made to post it on the website.

B. 1745 House Update:
-Jerry and John will finish last major beam on 11/30/02. Last workday the blade broke on the saw so 'day was cut short..
-Jerry received confirmation that following our presentation to the Eagles they have donated $1000 to the 1745 House fund. Jerry will check on whether this will be an installment or lump sum payment.
-Jerry contacted a carpenter (Derek Winslow) who may be able to help fix the roof.   Jerry and Mr. Winslow will survey the site and roof on II/19/02.
-Peter suggested that if the materials were a sizable $$ amount that it wou1d be worth another discount request from Home Depot.

C. Web Site www.Historicrockland.com:
-Hits to the site now at 1603 -Pat Cronin (Rockland Mariner) visited the site and gave some very positive feedback. The site is generating some inquiries from people regarding buildings, people, etc. which we will need to answer.
-Jerry has historical info on the Naval Base which he has found, with history dating back to the 1940s related to the startup of the base. 


D. RHC Sign Hingham and Webster  -Estimated cost is $900 for the sign. Knights have a meeting on 12/5 at 8PM.
-Wording on the sign has become an issue: some do not like to "business district." RHC consensus was that we would endorse "'historic district" or ""Rockland Centre."

~--2002 RHC Holiday House Tour - Trolley will not be available at all- since it would not be worthwhile to have it until 3 PM. Next year is good possibility.
-Rick Gay will be available at the church to give tours if requested.
-Ticket price (without Binney) will be $12 advance/$15 at the door. -Peter still awaiting final word from John Binney~ but does not look promising.
-George contacted several people for volunteers. Will discuss house assignments at 1215 meeting.
-Honey Dew donuts will donate 6 dozen donuts. Jerry will get coffee from Dunkin Donuts.
-An press contacts will receive release before Thanksgiving.

4. New Business:
-Abington Town book is now available perhaps RHC will revisit the project next year.
