Rockland Historic Commission Meeting Minutes 7 November 2002
Those members in attendance were: Peter Dow, Tim Woodward, Gerry Martin, and George Dearth (Associate).
1. The meeting was called to order at 7:07 PM.
2. Minutes: The Minutes of the 24 October 2002 were approved.
3. Treasurer's report: None.
3. Old Business:
A. Sub committee on 125th Capsule -Recap of 25th Capsule- Peter and George had
formed footing for stone to rest on, and it is now ready to be attached. George and Jerry will set the stone on II/9 using concrete adhesive. George donated the cost of the cement and adhesive for the project.
B. 1745 House Update:
-Full extermination done by Advanced Past Control (approx. $2000 value). Workers drilled holes, applied chemicals) etc. Approx. Jf2 work for 2 workers donated by company.
-John and Jerry will be working 11/9 to finish last major beam (under east side parlor bedroom chamber) and then move on to begin the replacement of the floors.
-some discussion about reuse of the floors, particularly the older (perhaps original) wide boards in the parlor. Jerry will evaluate each for evidence of rot/insect damage, and if they are sound we will plane and try to reuse.
Other areas will need new flooring ( consensus was to put done new wide pine).
-Peter will submit advertisement to WRPS soliciting roofers. The roof needs to be stabilized before winter to avoid damage to all the work that has already been done. Tim will talk to John Beam to see
if he can assist (family connection).
-Jerry, Peter, and John will present in front of the Eagles on 11/19 to solicit funds/services for roof repair. Sizable donation is likely (hoped for!).

-Jerry has added new link to an historic commissions in Massachusetts.
-Jerry has set up new page to advertise Holiday Tour. when info on houses is ready, it win appear here.
D. -RHC Sign Hingham and Webster St -Bill Wal1ace win give Jerry a price for the sign, which will be 2
1/2' X 4 /2'. Knights of Columbus and Rockland Garden to approve.
Knights would pay for sign, and Rockland garden wil1 donate the flowers.
E. 2002 RHC Holiday House Tour -tentative date change to 12/7 to coordinate with the Stroll. Peter will contact all homeowners and florist to confirm availability. Jerry win
confrim 12/7 availability with Stennett for the trolley.
-Trolley donation by Stennett is worth approx. $750: we win have to tip the driver.
-Jerry win contact Smith print for posters: Peter will provide sample.
Posters win be planted on sites' lawns on day of tour.
-I ~ Congregational Church win be open as well. and there win be a choral sing. Historical artifacts in the cases win be on display, and Rick Gay will be available for tours.
- Volunteers: George will contact Dana & Mary parsons, and Joe Placente.
Anyone else who can be recruited? win need 2-3 RHC persons at each house. plus coverage at GAR (for ticket/souvenir sales) and church (for ticket punch??). AIso- Betty Packard and Dean Sargeant??
-GAR - Don KusserfTim will coordinate. Open kitchen for coffee/tea, sen donuts/pastry for GAR fundraising. Jerry will contact Dunkin Donuts for donation. Peter win contact HoneyDew Donuts. Other suggestions:
AnitaMaries, Gunther Tooties, Seasons cafe. Not Just Seafood.
-Press: peter will contact enterprise, Mariner, and Patriot Ledger. Send out press release, hopefully to do story in advance to publicize the event and generate interest.
- Tickets will be on sale in advance at the Town Clerks office from 12/2-12/6. Still awaiting final word from John Binney, thus can't finalize ticket prices yet.
