Rockland Historical Commission Meeting Minutes for January 10,2002 Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM

Those members, associates and guests in attendance were: Peter Dow, Gerry Martin, Steve Miller, and George Dearth.

I. Minutes: The minutes for the Historical Commissions Meetings taking place on November 8,2001 and December 13,2001 were submitted and accepted. No changes were made.

2. Treasurers Report: An official report was not submitted however a deposit of $341.00 was noted from the house tours. It is estimated that there is $1,600.00 in the account. All account information was noted pending verification from the treasurer.

3. Old Business:
a. Web Site:
i. It has been noted that the site may be too graphics oriented. An effort will be made to reduce the download time and begin development of a text-oriented version of the site.
ii. The "1745 House" section will be added with historical and current information III. Commission information will be added with member information, calendar, and minutes.
iv. Begin to introduce site survey information (begin with "1745 House") y.. Validate whom checks will be made out to ("T own of Rockland", "Rockland Historical Commission", . . . ) vi. A search facility will be added (Google search engine) vii. Introduce more cross references viii. Begin process of contacting advertisers, not assigned at this meeting.
ix. Break down costs of site hosting for next meeting.
x. Respond to Rockland News for more information about website.

xi. Begin generating publicity on "1745" House.
xii. Contact High School to generate support and resources for research and development. 

b. Town of Rockland Welcome Sign 

 i. State of Massachusetts owns island ...

ii. Gerry will seek information on site contact and process for filing proposal to put sign on island 111. This is being driven by the Knights of Columbus and driven by Gerry Martin 

 IV. Site is located at intersection of Route 228 and Route 123 The approximate  cost     is    expected to be $ 2,000.00.


c. Opening of the Century Box. First Congregational Church 

i. Deemed a success with a great deal of media attention 

ii. CD's to be delivered to Ric Gay with picture information

 iii. Poll Father Hickey, Holy Family as next candidate for historic review 

iv. There will be a follow up on the contents of the box to be displayed on web site.
d. 1745 House 

i. Reviewed 12-17-2001 meeting with Selectmen

 ii. John Rogers has received architectural report and will be attending the next meeting iii. Funding drives were reviewed, to be discussed with John Rogers.


Suggestions with potential efforts from:
1. Home Depot 

2. Web Site 3. 

Public drive

 iv. Volunteer pool was discussed and ideas will be discussed at next meeting e. 

David Beale House

 i. To be developed and named "Cushing Brook Estates" 

ii. 12-19-2001 meeting with planning board reviewed 

1. Peter Gardner, current owner of the house will try to preserve as much of the house as possible 

2. Help will not be available from "this Old House" or the "Massachusetts Historical Commission" 

3. The Historical Commission requested the cooperation of everyone to make every effort possible to preserve the site.


4. The Historical Commission took note that efforts must be made to contact the commission before plans like this are in the final stages.
