Rockland Historic Commission Meeting Minutes 23 May 2002
Those members in attendance were: Peter Dow, George Dearth, Gerry Martin, John Burrows, and Steven Miller.
The meeting was called to order at 7: 10 PM on Thursday May 23,2002.
1. Minutes: The Minutes of the April 11, 2002 meetings were read and accepted.

Treasurer's report:
$ 1,189.29 General Account $ 195.81 Donation Account $ 19.59 Postal and Handling $1404.69
Knights of Columbus will be donating $200.00 to the 1745 House Fund Accounting needs to be done to differentiate funding for the 1745 House and the appropriate monies transferred to that fund
3. Old Business:
1745 House:
Peter validated inventory received from Home Depot for the 1745 House and stored in the cellar Gerry and John cut out the rotting flooring in the house, replaced and shored up the existing structure, and are ready fro the next steep, once beam is in place, floors will be covered and the site reviewed with the building inspector Gerry will be getting a company to spray down the site for bug extermination (donation of time and expense) John recommends that we get a 20' 6"X8" beam for the center of the house, Peter will validate if available at Home Depot (special order) A. W . Perry is looking to help, donate and support the effort 1. Would like to restore the roof with cedar shingles 2. Willing to donate money if we work with them Warmington Furniture suggested they may be interested in donating furniture and/or money There is currently no plumbing or water supply to support the house.
Currently we will leave electrical junction meter and box but disconnect runs into house until an electrician can review and fix It was mentioned the Library Foundation set up and successfully worked a non profit account and was suggested we look into and do the same
Web Site:
Gerry is adding links to external site Gerry submitted a bill for reimbursement; four months of hosting with Polyactive at a cost of $109.85. The yearly cost will be $329.55 per year
Gerry will be integrating Database functionality for the survey Gerry will be updating the site further and cleaning up for the next meeting. He is seeking review and constructive analysis
RHC Sign:
Gerry stated the following:
1. Utilities have marked the area (Dig Safe at 888 dig safe contacted) 2. Rockland Gardens have ordered flowers for site 3.
Gerry will be meeting with Bill Wallace regarding requirements on sign partition 4.
Gerry will be seeking selectman's approval 5. Zoning Board will have to approve plan 6. Park Department has approved plan and site
DAR Plague:
Gerry contacted Rockland Police Department seeking letter regarding site Peter spoke to Peter Ewell and validated spot for plaque was all set.
Scheduled meeting with DAR on May 18,2001 was not attended by anyone from the commission. Next available meeting time will be in July
125th Time Capsule:
Waiting on information on GAR from Tim Woodward Expected dedication ceremony will be around September or early October George had some Y2K materials he would like to donate for the time capsule
Plymouth County Convention and Visitors Bureau:

4. New Business:
Holiday Tours:
December 14th scheduled for tour Participants should be contacted in late August or early September (Horsch, Holland, Springhetti, . . . ) GAR Hall will be the meeting point for starting and ticket purchase
Appointments for Historical Commission:
Next Selectmen's meeting will be held June 3rd, 2002 Peter has submitted his application for appointment Steve Miller will not be seeking re-appointment
Historical Commission Elections:
. Scheduled for June 27th . Elections for all positions
Matt MacDonald/Boston Globe:
. Writing weekly stories with historical content . Seeking stories and reference Hobart Book
5. Correspondence:
o Kathy Cocoran seeking information o Memo from town seeking information on the where abouts of the old Boston Post Cane. It may have been lost in town hall fire
Memo stating open meeting laws requiring 48 hour notice and public posting
