Rockland Historic Commission Meeting Minutes 25 July 2002
Those members in attendance were: Peter Dow, John Burrows, Tim Woodward, and Jerry Martin. Non-members: Oil Arbuckle (Brockton Enterprise) and George Dearth.
1. The meeting was called to order at 7:08 PM.
2. Minutes: The Minutes of the 27 June 2002 were reviewed and accepted.
3. Treasurer's report: -General:

4. Annual Election Results:
Chairman: Peter Dow Vice Chairman: Jerry Martin Secretary: open (Peter will serve as acting Secretary until position is appointed by RHC) Treasurer: John Burrows Terms will extend for 1 year, until next election 6/26/03.
5. Old Business:
A. 1745 House Update:
-Given the recent hot weather, work inside the 1745 House has slowed.
Jerry and John have continued to work on the rear (north) floor structure of the house and have made good progress. Next obstacle is the east side which also has serious structural problems as well.
-RHC will meet to tour the 1745 House on Aug 10 at 9 AM. Members can see the progress and assess the next steps.
-RHC will be on the 8/19 agenda for the BOS to provide an update of the restoration progress. This will become a regular appearance (likely quarterly or semiannually) until the project is finished. John, Jerry, and Peter will appear to update the Selectmen and answer questions.
-Steve Miller is finishing a new basement door which will greatly improve access and security. He expects to have it on Aug 10.
B. Web Site www.historicrockland.com:
-Jerry estimates that we are getting approx. 10 hits per day. In order to increase traffic, Jerry will fix header so it is picked up in more search engines. I.E., changing the "Welcome To. . ." phrase to "Rockland Historical Commission Welcomes You." -Jerry will add GAR Hall link to site.
-Jerry also added/expanded the photo gallery.
C. RHC Sign (Hingham and Webster St) -Jerry is working with Rockland Garden now to plant flowers ( lilies) and bulbs.
- Plans originally created for Rockland/ Abington Joint Water Works are being used as a guide with some revisions.
D. Subcommittee on 12Sth Capsule -Target date is still late Sept/early October.
-Peter will bring 12Sth coin to the Aug 22 meeting for George to add to current collection of material.
-George will bring all material to Aug 22 meeting so RHC can see what we have and put together box.
-Capsule box is at Magoun.
E. DAR Plague -Deb Cormier from the local DAR chapter has forwarded info/RHC request t6 display the plaque to the regional DAR for their review and approval. Peter is awaiting response from Barbara Delorey, but nothing yet- he will call before next meeting.
5. New Business:
A. National Trust for Historic Preservation -John Burrows received a call from the Trust soliciting approval to use Rockland's drugstore success against walgreens as part of a promotional website page highlighting preservation victories by the Trust. They expect this to be released in September. John will keep RHC informed.
