Rockland Historic Commission Meeting Minutes 26 September 2002

Those members in attendance were: Peter Dow, John Burrows, and Jerry Martin. Non-members: Oil Arbuckle (Brockton Enterprise), Steve Miller, and George Dearth.

1. The meeting w~ called to order at 7:07 PM.

2. Minutes: The Minutes of the 12 September2002 were reviewed and accepted (with some corrections from Peter)

4. Old Business:
A. 1745 House Update:
-Jerry and John are awaiting the next delivery wood. Peter will be ordering and scheduling delivery from Home Depot within the next week.
Home Depot h~ offered 50% off all building materials we need as a donation to the RHC. RHC voted to authorize Peter to spend Donation Account money to purchase wood: Peter estimated $100-$200 cost (including $50 delivery charge)-RHC approved the temporary solution to the pest problem. Absolute Pest Control presented 2 proposals: right now, no cash available to spend on the recommended $2000 solution. Exterminator will do the short term application for free jerry will arrange.

B. Web Site www .historicrockland.com:

-Hits to the site now at 1079, indicating an increased interest. Jerry asked Oil to add www.historicrockland.corn to any announcements whenever pos . ill revise WRPS announcements and see if WRPS can add address as w II.
-Bill Minihan starting a new Town website. Jerry wil11ook into having a site on the Town site.
-Guest book issue- discussion about how to handle negative comments received, whether or not they are directed at RHC. Suggestion to shut off submitters based upon their email address.
Domain registration issue: .corn and .org still under Steve's name, and these will expire on 9130. Steve will take care of this with Greg Spence @ Polyactive to ensure that we do not Jose the domain names.




{Hingham and Webster St) -Jerry informed us that K of C wants to go with 2.5. x 4. sign.
-Safety officer gave verbal approval to Jerry .
-Plantings at the intersection look great. doing well.

D. Subcornrnittee on 12Slh Capsule -Final preparation for 10/5/02 burial ceremony.
-Jerry was able to get Rockland cement to donate a bluestone approx. 1.
wide x 4. long x 27' thick.
-Lenny Dibona will donate his engraving services to inscribe the stone.
-Dominic Delprete will dig the hole on Friday 10/4/02.
-Peter will take care of Dig Safe markings and approval from Superintendent Compton and School Committee.
-Magoun Biggins donated the vault.
-ail will write an artic1e and will try to arrange a photographer.
-George will mail an invitation to all 125th Committee members.
-Peter will send invitation to Brad Plante and Selectmen.
-Peter will take care of WRPS announcement.

E. 2002 RHC Holiday House Tour -Discussed list of homes which would be invited to participate. Peter will:
compose and send out letter to homeowners.
-date is 12/14 from 1- 4 PM.
-Jerry will add announcement to website7 Peter will take care of publicity for WRPS.
-General discussion about video. trolley.
-Peter will attend 10/9 meeting at GAR to coordinate the planning.

5. New Business:
A. Genealogy Information Steve Miller requested that RHC give him access to the Archives to see if there is anything he could use for a project on East Abington residents.
RHC voted to do so. Peter gave him access that night.

6. Correspondence:
~ -Contribution of $35 from Beverly Stewart. Peter will send Thanks you letter.

8. Next Meeting: Aug 22 at 7 PM in the Town Hall Lounge.

9. Adjournment: A motion to adjourn was made and accepted. The time was 8:35 PM.
