Rockland Historic Commission Meeting Minutes 12 February 2003

Those members in attendance were: Peter Dow, Tim Woodward, John BURTOWS, and George Dearth (Associate).

1. The meeting was called to order at 7:04,PM.

2. Minutes: The Minutes of the 9 January 2003 were approved.

3. Treasurer's report:

3. Old Business:
A. 1745 House Update -Jerry discussed that there is interest from one person to assist in repairing the roof. Labor in exchange for advertisement of services. Commitment to follow when weather improves.
-Derek Winslow will begin working on securing the windows when the weather improves. This work and payment was approved by RHC in fall 2002.

B. Web Site www.historicrockland.com update -2605 hits thus far.
- Transition of billing from Jerry to RHC has begun. Jerry provided a cop:
of the monthly charges (May 2002-Dec 2002) from polyactive to John who will prepare reimbursement foIll1. Current charge is $39.95 monthly, and will be billed directly to the RHC @ Town Hall address going forward.
-Jerry will add RHC website to the MHC website for link ~Genera1 discussion about offering RHC website hosting to Town for posting announcements, minutes, warrants, etc. Town is in process of creating own website, thus this would be an interim solution to assist.
RHC members agreed this would be good service to provide to the Town.
-Jerry has been in contact with NASA to get permission to put link on our website for Brian Duffy website. Good tie in with Town, and historical connection of prominence.
-Free servers.com may be cheaper alternative to polyactive hosting: Jerry will investigate. Issues include amount of space needed (including 


potential space needed to post town information. and tools to compress software to save space.
-Jerry distributed www .historicrockland.com bumper stickers. courtesy Bill Wallace. Good promotion!

C. RHC Sign (Hingham and Webster St) -Approval was received on Feb 4,2003 from Peter Ewell and the Park Dept.
-Jerry received verbal approval from Public Safety officer as to how to angle the sign on the island.
-At this point, the sign will be double sided. mahogany. carved. and (perhaps) solar lighted.

D. Arcadia Publishing Project -General discussion of reviving the book project. and a review of previous information and example of typical book., -Peter win type up the outline as to the chapters, topics. etc.
-Discussion regarding the photographs produced from glass negatives currently in the RHC storage closet. George discussed the efforts to produce photos for the 125th calendar and the involvement with N.E. Art.

4. New Business:
A. BOS Presentation -Peter and Jerry will plan on appearing before the BOS at one of their March meetings to bring them up to date on the 1745 House and credit specific donors publicly. At that timed, we will also offer our website services to the Town to display public documents, minutes.
announcements. etc.
-Peter win contact the Town Administrator to set up the RHC {)n the agenda.

5. Correspondence -Email from Ari Herzog regarding the Presidential stay of Grover Cleveland in Rockland. While many assumed that the visit was to the Hotel Thomas. John Burrows suggested that it was more likely to have been at the Belmont Hotel (now the site of the Donovan estate).
-Letter from Sherri Herrick regarding a town resident from the 1920s and the possibility of attendance at a Rice school in Rockland.
-Notification that MHC approved the placement of a telecom tower with in the steeple of the 1st Congregational Church

7. Next Meeting: 2/27/03 at 7 PM in the Town Hall Lounge.

8. Adjournment: A motion to adjourn was made and accepted. The time was 8:10 PM.
